The Itinerary
Friday Evening
The Boot Inn is a fantastic 16th century pub where you are guaranteed a very warm welcome. It is a community-owned pub that was saved from being sold for development.
OnFriday evening, we shall
hold our traditional informal weekend reception, which usually includes
a number of overseas visitors,
so the evening typically
takes on something of an international flavour. This year we will
gather at
The Boot Inn, Orelton,
just south of Ludlow.
All welcome from opening
time onwards and meals will be available from 5-30 p.m. until 8-30 p.m.
If you would like to book a table, please contact
reservations@bootinnorleton.co.uk.
The Saturday Tour
CCome and enjoy a relaxed day of touring and socializing, commencing with breakfast at the Ludlow Kitchen (adjacent to the Clive Arms, Bromfield).
Every entrant will receive a complementary Tour Handbook at the start, providing explicit route details and background information relating to the places of interest that we will be visiting along the route.
The day will start at The Clive Arms, Bromfield (OS137/482770) where breakfast will be available at the adjacent Ludlow Kitchen to start the day off well. We will then set off, visiting various places of historic or scenic interest.
The afternoon run will conclude with tea and pastries at Burford House, just west of Tenbury Wells.
The day will conclude with an optional run out to the Lion at Leintwardine, idyllically situated on the banks of the River Teme.
Sunday
The Marches Navigation Rally and Scenic Tour
The Marches Navigation Rally and parallel Scenic Tour will start at 8 a.m. sharp on Sunday morning.
The day will start at the Clive Arms, Bromfield, where breakfast will be available at the adjacent Ludlow Kitchen.
Entrants may elect to compete in the Navigation Rally or simply take
a relaxing tour of approximately 60 miles,
wending its
way down hidden byways and through the sleepy hamlets of the Border country.
The Navigation Rallyists will be provided with their clue cards and answer cards at the start and will need Ordnance Survey Landranger map 137 in order to plot the route.
Meanwhile, the Scenic Tourists will be provided with an informative Tour Handbook which will contain explicit and easy-to-follow route directions as well as a wealth of fascinating information describing various points of interest along the route.
And as a new feature this year, we are inviting our scenic tourists to optionally take the treasure hunt clues of the Navigation Rally with them at the start, so they can hunt out the same clues as the navigation rallyists, but without having to solve the crypric navigation clues to find them! There will be separate awards for this Tourist Treasure Hunt class, and taking part might encourage you to enter the full Navigation Rally next year!
The Roy Hogg Trophy will be awarded to the best Morris Minor/M Type performance in the Navigation Rally.
The Lewis and Nicholson Trophy will be awarded to the winning team in this traditional challenge between the Minors and the Austin 7's.
There will also be a Team Trophy, awarded to the winning team in the Team Challenge. The Team Challenge will be open to teams of three cars - three of the same marque, model or simply good friends!
There will also be a special trophy presentation for the best non Minor/M Type performance in the Navigation Rally.
Note on MSUK route authorization and insurance requirements. Today's Navigation Rally route is being authorized by MSUK, with event number 29037JY21. In addition to the standard RTA insurance, the Navigational Rally entrants will have to obtain a ‘top-up’ insurance from a broker such as REIS or Bluefin. This would also be a requirement if the event was running on a Motorsport UK permit as whilst the permit provides 3rd party cover for damage to property etc., it does not provide cover for the entrants running on the competitive road sections. The weekend Scenic Tours do not require additional top-up insurance as they are not competitive and have no timing element.
Note also that some insurers include cover for MSUK permitted events, but as this is not a permitted event, you may need to take out top-up cover. Worth checking.
On Sunday lunchtime, we will gather for our now traditional Vintage Summer Picnic
The magnificent Walcot Hall in Shropshire will play host to our Vintage Summer Picnic on Sunday. An elegant Georgian country house owned by Clive of India, Walcot Hall dates to the Elizabethan period, but the original house was remodelled after Clive purchased the estate on the advice of his uncle, Sir Francis Dashwood of Hellfire Club fame. Picnics will be provided against advance order by the Ludlow Kitchen, adjacent to the Sunday start. Ordering details will be added here shortly. Or bring your own!
Sunday Evening
Our Sunday runs will conclude with a unique Vintage BBQ and Jazz Evening at the magnificent Dunkertons Cider Barn near Pembridge, where the Navigation Rally results will be calculated and awards presented to the victors!
Order your tickets here.
Often seen at Prescott and other motoring events and led by Terry McGrath - Alvis, Austin 7 driver and still racing his Amilcar. Terry leads on trombone, playing melodic vintage jazz of the 1920's/1930's era and featuring Sheila Fawkes on vocals. The Band will serenade us at the our Sunday evening Vintage BBQ.
Tea, coffee and light refreshments will be available for those not wishing to partake in the BBQ.
If you wish,
after the BBQ, there will be a Farewell
evening run out on Sunday evening to the Boot Inn, Orleton.
All welcome
from opening time onwards and meals will be available until 8-30 p.m.
If you would like to book a table, please contact
reservations@bootinnorleton.co.uk.
