Re: JF 4238 1933 Minor Saloon
Managed to get the body and doors bare-metal primed and first coat of Primer/Filler on. Only took 2 hours to get the VW Green paint out of the spray gun - eldest son not too good and cleaning things up! looks like the Primer does 'stick' to Ash; will not matter too much as it will be covered by the ...

Re: JF 4238 1933 Minor Saloon
Mr + Mrs Pytchley might turn over in their ... if they are watching this. Whether the car has two drain holes visible (one fore, one aft), I think, suggests that the car has a 'flat' roof; if it has 1 it has the rear incline.

Re: JF 4238 1933 Minor Saloon
I am sure that somebody did tell me just to leave it as it was - could have saved a lot of time + £60 worth of Ash! Been off-Piste a bit with the roof. A lot of those that I did manage to look at did have an inclined section between the gutter frame and the rear, fixed section of the roof; some just...

Re: JF 4238 1933 Minor Saloon
A sliding roof is nearly re-constructed. Roof Structure 1.jpg .. with a bit of boat-building technology Roof Structure 2.jpg and some metal guttering Roof Structure 3.jpg I have welded up the guide rails, just need to trial fit + work out how the sliding roof component will actually slide along the ...

Re: Minor Problems ( I wish they were !)
If one of the hardened steel 'pins' that fit into the alloy clutch spring carrier assembly, was incorectly seated/missing, might (when the clutch pedal is depressed) the driven plate be rotating between two plates that are not parrallel; and perhaps 'catch' every now and again?

Re: JF 4238 1933 Minor Saloon
Well, time is getting a bit tight for Prescott. I will be there, but ..... Will probably have body painted by end of May. Taking Post-War Minor to France for the first week of June - will get nothing done on car until 2nd week in June. Have loom 90% 'made' - laid cables for Flashers + Brake lights -...

Re: JF 4238 1933 Minor Saloon
And nearly sorted out the roof structure -lots of Ash + lots of Screws; probably raised the centre of gravity a bit! - might it tip over when cornering?(hard) roof structure 1a.jpg roof structure 2a.jpg Just need to sort out how to marry the incline from the sunroof aperture to the rear roof profile...

Re: JF 4238 1933 Minor Saloon
The sun shone again, so I removed the remaining bits of the roof. Will start to construct the sliding roof tomorrow. Is anyone able to give me the dimensions of the 'opening' in the roof (the open rectangle that the sliding componet covers) that an original sliding roof has? Roof Removed.jpg I am al...

Re: 1934 Winged calormeter on Ebay
I have noticed that quite a number of Minors do have chrome wings. Were they just added by owners? or do they 'mean' something?

Re: JF 4238 1933 Minor Saloon
Decided to leave the engine alone for a while to concentrate on the body, it might mend itself!, or it might not even be 'broken' - just naturaly noisey. Does anyone have any photos that show how the door overlaps work? I can see that the rear of the door overlaps the rear quarter panel and that the...

Re: JF 4238 1933 Minor Saloon
Well, it might be that the 'clatter' that I was trying to get rid of was a characteristic of the engine? Tracking back through a PWM thread + my recent request there does seem to be a lot of confusion over Tappet Clearances. The books/mauals look to contradict each other and several folks report los...

Re: JF 4238 1933 Minor Saloon
Thanks Ian - with a recharged battery, it started first time this morning - perhaps a little less Tappet/Clatter noise than with 19Thou gap - still unable to understand how 4 Thou set using 'Rule of Nine' does not result in 4 Thou clearance when checked using the 'valves rocking' technique? If I get...

Re: JF 4238 1933 Minor Saloon
I worked through the 1342 order; followed the valve sequence and set the Tappets for each cylinder, in turn, at 4 Thou - that brought the compressions back but unfortunately by then the battery had had enough. As I was also in the process of fitting the new distributor and had not correctly re-timed...
